🍦 The Ice Cream Uncle in District 1 and the “chaotic sisters squad” 😂
One beautiful afternoon, the 4 of us “chị chị em em” were taking walk around District 1 together.
The 2 little ones are my older sister’s daughters.
In Vietnam, we have slang “chị chị em em”
“Chị chị em em” translates literally to “sisters sisters.”.
it describes relationships between women and carries two contrasting meanings depending on the context.
– Close Female Friendship (Positive)
– Fake and Toxic Relationships (Negative)
There is also a Vietnamese film called “Chị chị em em”, English name “Sister Sister”.
And, we – my family is real “chị chị em em”
Technically, we were 2 pairs of sisters.
A real “chị chị em em” squad 😌
We were walking around, talking nonsense non-stop, when we spotted an ice cream cart 🍦
Each of us immediately got a 2-scoop cone so the whole team could match.
The ice cream Uncle looked at all of us and sincerely warned:
“The little one should get a cup, it’s easy to drop.”
But no 🙂
We insisted on holding cones
So
🍦 2 coconut
🍓 1 strawberry
🍫 1 chocolate
4 cones. Aproved immediately.
And then…
The youngest little sister held hers for maybe a few seconds before:
“PLOP.”
One whole scoop landed directly on the street 😭
She froze completely.
Her face looked like:
“Wait… what just happened to my life?” 🥹
Meanwhile, the other 3 of us were laughing to “heaven”.
Especially the “little older sister.”
She was laughing with her entire soul 🤣
And exactly 5 seconds later.
Not even one second off.
“PLOP.”
Her chocolate scoop launched itself onto the ground too 🤡
This time the whole group almost laughed ourselves into another dimension.
We told her:
“Laugh at others today, tomorrow they laugh at you. Karma comes FAST.” 😂
Then the ice cream Uncle saw what happened and said:
“Bring it here, I’ll add more.”
Honestly, he really didn’t have to do that.
But he still happily fixed the ice cream for the kids 🍦
We were touched 🥺
And this time, he packed the ice cream down SO tightly.
Like he had made a personal decision:
“No one is dropping ice cream on my watch today.” 🤣
After that, we sat there eating ice cream, enjoying the breeze, talking nonsense, and laughing out loud in the middle of a very ordinary but very lovely afternoon.
That night, I asked B.Ánh (the “little older sister”):
“What made you happiest today?”
She answered immediately:
“When we ate ice cream.”
(And we had gone to a few other places before that too 😆)
I guess happiness really doesn’t need to be anything big.
Sometimes tiny little moments are enough to color childhood — and life itself — in the sweetest way.
Thank you to the ice cream Uncle for such a warm and thoughtful little act 🍦
And thank you to us, for truly being present with each other and sharing such a simple, laughter-filled afternoon together 🌿✨
